Waterways, Borders, & Highways 2024
Excerpts from the Waterway Report (available here)
The following report and prayers focus on the waterways, trade, shipping, and trafficking along the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway. I ran a report in 2002 regarding threats and pollutants that threaten our water safety and riverways; that’s also included. I enclosed excerpts from the Highway Prayer Guide previously released to Michigan at cindywilliamsmoore.com. Last, I enclosed two prophetic alerts, including James Goll’s 2003 alert and Gina Gholston’s Jan 2024 alert for the waterways. This strategic information provides biblical understandings of highways and prayer examples to strengthen our efforts.
As watchmen, we must be strategically informed of what is in the world around us. In addition to watching in the natural, we look to the Lord and out into the future to see how to pray to secure our waterways, land, and people.
Help support our efforts; order a copy for $10 here.

Geography
- The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River are part of a vast system linking North America's heartland with ports and markets throughout the world. The Great Lakes rivers, straits, and canals form one of the world's busiest shipping travelways. The lakes are linked with the Atlantic Ocean via the St. Lawrence River.
- The Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway system includes all five Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River, beginning at the Superior Port in Wisconsin on Lake Superior and down the St. Lawrence River to the Atlantic Ocean. The St. Lawrence River flows from Lake Ontario to the Atlantic Ocean and the Seaway portion of the system extends from Montreal to mid-Lake Erie.
Trade-Economic Significance
- The Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway shipping supports $36 billion in economic activity in the U.S.
- More than 60 percent of seaway traffic travels to and from overseas ports, especially in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Iron ore, coal, grain and steel make up about 80 percent of cargoes shipped each year.
- More than 40 provincial and interstate highways connect Great Lakes Seaway ports with key cities in the U.S. and Canada—three times the number of highways serving competing ports.
- The 2,000-mile-long Seaway system is responsible for annual commerce exceeding 200 million net tons. Over 30 million people rely on the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Seaway system, either recreationally or commercially.
- • The Great Lakes U.S.-Flag fleet, crewed by American Mariners and primarily organized by the Lake Carriers Association, was a leading driver of these economic impacts.

Excerpt 2: Detroit
Detroit Port Fast Facts
Geography
- It is Michigan’s largest inland port. It is made up of multiple marine terminals for handling general, liquid, and bulk cargo as well as passengers.
- The Detroit freeway network is the hub for over 1,500 miles of toll-free expressways throughout Michigan that links Canada to other states.
- Detroit is one of the world's busiest waterways. Port Huron and Detroit Michigan are considered the busiest shipping travelways in the nation (amount of shipping traffic traveling through a given area). Annually, approximately 7 million tons of overseas and Canadian cargo crosses our docks here at the Port of Detroit.
- It contains several terminals in Detroit, River Rouge, and Ecorse. The DWCPA owns the NT&D Detroit Terminal in the Delray neighborhood of Detroit. All other marine terminals at the Port of Detroit are privately owned and operated.
- Each year, the Port Authority oversees millions of tons of cargo at 29 private and public sector terminal facilities in the Port of Detroit, including international and domestic commodities, which are shipped in and out of the port.8
Economic Significance
- The border point between Detroit and Windsor is the largest single commercial traffic in the world on a daily basis.
- Through Detroit Michigan, Canada receives 40% of its nation's imported goods. It is the leading gateway to the Canadian market.
- It has the largest Foreign Trade Zone in North America in the U.S. in terms of zone sites, duty savings and value of goods leaving the trade zone. Trade between the U.S. and Canada and the Detroit/Windsor border surpasses trade between the U.S. and Mexican border.
- Shipping was responsible for over $36 billion in economic activity in the States and Canadian Provinces along the waterways. In Detroit, $920 million of economic activity resulted from shipping.
- Steel is the Port’s most valuable commodity. It is one of the largest steel-handling ports in the nation; the port is a powerhouse of the United States economy.
- Ore is the largest amount of goods handled by tonnage. Other goods include stone, coal, and cement.

Partnership
Review the project. If you are a pastor, ministry, or prayer group leader and want to partner with this endeavor, please do. Share the name of the church, ministry, or organization and your location. If you are an individual, consider going with a friend and praying, then share your report.
Begin or continue praying and watching. Following is a proposal to examine your community, watch over it, and pray and decree.
Reporting
Reporting is vital for our state. I spend much time examining Michigan. Talking with various leaders – government, pastors, religious leaders, business and education - and researching to gauge how well the Kingdom of God is or is not advancing in our state. When we follow God, do what He tells us to do and say what He tells us to say – God moves and allows us to see how powerful He is. So go, pray, and share.
Your reports produce state reports that I use and share with other leaders to assess how the gospel of the Kingdom of God is advancing in the state. Ultimately we all are looking for harvest, to see the fruit of our labors for Christ. These reports are made available on cindywilliamsmoore.com.
